All meetings will be held in the cafeteria beginning at 7:00 pm and running about 60 minutes in length. The parent sessions will present adult catechesis given by Fr. Bober and Deacon Ralph Bachner on topics to assist parents in teaching their child(ren) at home (at least one parent must attend these meetings). This option is best for families with multiple scheduling conflicts or those who want to be more directly involved with their child(ren)’s faith formation.

CGS: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)

This approach to the religious formation of children is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the Church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an "atrium," a room prepared for them which contain simple yet beautiful materials that they use. In the atrium, children fall in love with God and form a life-long relationship with God.

Sessions are held:

  • Sunday Morning – 11:00 am to 12:00 pm (Parish Center – Franklin Rd)
  • Tuesday Afternoon – 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm (Parish Center – Franklin Rd)

Parents interested in having their children participate in this program should contact Deacon Ralph Bachner, to register and for additional information about this program.

Creed Course - The Profession of Faith
Saint Kilian Parish will host a six week course, CREED: THE PROFESSION OF FAITH. Classes will be held in the Library on Tuesday evenings, September 20 - October 25th, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Catechists for this course are Fr. Bober and Deacon Ralph.

The course is geared toward all catechists working with any age group: CCD and school, youth ministers, catechists for adults and RCIA catechists. Parents and any interested adults can also benefit greatly from the course.

Please contact Susan Bachner at 724.625.1665 x2111 to register or for more information. The cost of this course is $30.

Catechist and Volunteer Requirements (Clearances)
We are so grateful to have your interest in our Religious Education Programs! Teaching and working with children is a ministry that requires much love, sacrifice and patience but it rewards you with more than you will give. The first step in working with children at Saint Kilian Parish is to contact the appropriate church staff member who coordinates the program you are interested in.

The Diocese requires that all who work for the Church in any capacity obtain clearances. Please click here for information on obtaining your clearances and the Safe Environment Policy.

Children's Liturgy of the Word for Young Parishioners
CLW is geared towards young children, typically preschool through second grade. However, younger children can attend if accompanied by an adult or with an older child. Older children are welcomed if they would like to be junior helpers to assist the younger children.

The children begin with singing a simple Bible song or reciting a poem or prayer and then the Gospel reading is proclaimed from the Children’s Lectionary, which is easier to understand. An adult leader discusses with the children the basic meaning of the message and explains simple foundations of our faith, we pray intercessory prayers and the Creed, and then we can sing another song for dismissal.

Children's Liturgy of the Word for Young Parishioners is held each Sunday during the 10:30 am Mass.

Volunteers are need for Children's Liturgy of the Word for Children, please click here for information.
