Family Program
Our parish recognizes the varied schedules of our many parish families. For those families who cannot participate in our regular programming, a Family Program is offered where parents work from the text with their child at home during the year. The families meet on-site 5 times throughout the year for catechetical enrichment as a family (children and at least one parent or guardian). Resources, support and supplemental information is provided throughout the year mostly through email communication and our parish website.
- Option F-1: Homeschool
In this option the parents are the only catechists and oversee the child’s work which will be done from the textbook and online resources.
- Option F-1: Family Program
The families meet on-site monthly for liturgical catechesis
Resources, support and supplemental information is provided throughout the year mostly through email communication and our parish website. Schedule for book pick-up, orientation, and on-site dates to be announced.
Upcoming Gatherings
At least one parent should attend the gatherings with your child/children.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)
This approach to the religious formation of children is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an "atrium," a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials that they use.
Because of the increased interest in this Montessori method of faith formation, CGS Level I will be offered on Sunday morning and Tuesday afternoon at the Cranberry Parish Center at the same time as the traditional religious education sessions. The "portable atrium" will be set up in one of the classrooms for these sessions.
Two rooms for Level I atrium and Level II atrium have been constructed in the Mars church social hall. This will now be the location of our new Good Shepherd Center with Level I sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and Wednesday at 5:00 pm along with Level II atrium at 5:00 pm. Having the atrium fully set up offers many opportunities for expanding the program and also for scheduling formation sessions for catechists and interested adults. To register for the CGS sessions, please complete the Faith Formation Registration form 2010-2011 and return to the religious education office.
Orientation for parents of children registered in CGS will be scheduled in late August, with CGS sessions for little ones following the regular Faith Formation Program schedule from mid-September to end of April.

Elementary Faith Formation
The traditional classroom model will be enhanced with more service and community events open to all families throughout the year. The Diocese of Pittsburgh curriculum will be followed through the Harcourt textbook series.
Two time options on Sunday are available, which will include participation at mass. First Session will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. in the classrooms, at 9:00 a.m. the children will go to mass (if parents are attending this mass, children can sit with family – otherwise children will sit in a group). Children registered for the later Sunday session will begin their classroom session promptly at 11a.m., and will attend the 12:15 p.m. Mass with their group (or youth can sit with family at mass if they are present).

Children's Liturgy of the Word for Young Parishioners
CLW is geared towards young children, typically preschool
through second grade. However, younger children can attend if accompanied by an adult
or with an older child. Older children are welcomed if they would like to be junior
helpers to assist the younger children.
The children begin with singing a simple Bible song or
reciting a poem or prayer and then the Gospel reading is proclaimed from the Children’s
Lectionary, which is easier to understand. An adult leader discusses with the children the
basic meaning of the message and explains simple foundations of our faith, we pray
intercessory prayers and the Creed, and then we can sing another song for dismissal.
Children's Liturgy of the Word for Young Parishioners is held each Sunday during the 10:30 am Mass.
Volunteers are need for Children's Liturgy of the Word for Children,
