Our Faith on Fire! Faith Formation Programming

The Faith Formation programming at Saint Kilian Parish is directed toward the development of true spiritual growth and incorporation into the life of the Catholic community. Teaching the core tenets, values, and beliefs of our Faith, we strive to intertwine education with the vibrant and meaningful practice of devotions and participation in the sacraments so that we form disciples of Christ who embrace their faith and community and have a strong, lifelong relationship with God.

Please use the links below for more information on our programming and options. In addition to our regular programming, for those students who have never been baptized, have been baptized into another faith, or who have special needs, a customized program of instruction tailored to your child’s individual situation is always an option. Contact Mary French, Director of Faith Formation by emailing mfrench@saintkilian.org or by calling 724-625-1665 x.2122 with your questions or to discuss your child’s special circumstances.

Students in Grades K - 6
This option for religious education is offered to students in grades K-6 and meets on Sunday mornings from 10:20 AM – 11:40 AM.  Our Faith on Fire! Our Faith on Fire! Family

Family emphasis on Faith Formation for Grades K-6, meeting monthly on a Wednesday or Thursday 6:30-7:45 PM.

The Family option is for those with busy schedules who perhaps travel a lot or participate in various outside activities, making a weekly commitment difficult, and for families who wish to take charge of the formation of their children!  Our Faith on Fire! Family truly puts the faith formation of your children into your hands with guidelines to follow so that you don’t feel overwhelmed or unsure where to start.  Gone is the traditional textbook and homework emphasis.  Parents who choose this option commit to monthly informational meetings between September and April for tips and tools about the programming for that month.  The added bonus is fellowship with other parents who have children enrolled in this option, and the opportunity to exchange ideas, plans, your successes and more.  You may opt to attend either Wednesday or Thursday evening each month in the Church Hall, allowing for more flexibility in your planning.  Meetings are designed for parents and only one need attend, but both are encouraged whenever possible.  If it is necessary for children to attend with the parent(s), a supervised and fun kid-friendly activity (grades Pre-K to 6) will be provided.  At home parents will utilize their handbook, an activity book, the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church!  There are many activities to choose from in order to catechize children around the dinner table, in the car, and anywhere convenient.  Some of the work done at home will be incorporated into a “Family Storybook” each month, which will be shared at the end of the school year.  Families are also invited to attend 4 special sessions that incorporate food, fellowship, and fun – bringing the monthly theme of instruction into focus and presenting the opportunity to attend Mass together!  Dates for these special sessions are TBD but are tentatively scheduled during the months of September, November, February, and early May.  Grades 5 and 6 only will attend one evening for their Catholic Vision of Love lessons, and will participate in the Jr. SKY youth group, attending at least three sessions throughout the course of the school year to complete the program. For a list of session dates and other events that will be on your child’s calendar as part of this option, please see below.

Our Faith on Fire! Confirmation

Year 1 and 2 Confirmation Students
Confirmation preparation takes place over the course of 2 years of programming in Our Faith on Fire! Confirmation.  Both year groups have the option of attending either Sunday evenings, or Tuesday evenings from 6:20-8:20 PM but must commit to one day when registering.  Groups will meet no more than every other week, which means less days here on site throughout the school year – just 14 sessions total, plus the additional CVOL session.  Year 1 and Year 2 Confirmation will use the same program, Chosen, from Ascension Press, in combination with supplemental videos, presentations, devotions, discussions, and more.  Dividing the program over two years allows time for more group discussion and the addition of these other elements.  Students will engage their faith to a greater degree than in years past via faith formation programming.  They will be called to participate in service projects in the community, to have Catholic Encounters each semester, and to participate in the Jr. SKY youth group; taking them outside of the classroom for involvement not only with peers, but with parish and community. Additionally, Year 2 Confirmation students will attend a retreat prior to Confirmation in the Spring (details to TBD). Parents of students enrolled in Year 2 Confirmation should also anticipate at least one parent meeting, as well as a confirmation practice and a few dates to which parents will be invited to participate in the program with their child!  For a list of session dates and other events that will be on your child’s calendar as part of this option, as well as explanations of the Service and Catholic Encounter elements, please see below.

Our Faith on Fire! Special Needs

Students with Special Needs
Customized Faith Formation programming for students with special needs.
If your child has special needs, we encourage you to come in and talk about possible faith formation options that are available at Saint Kilian Parish. As an act of good will, our aim is to tailor a plan that meet the student’s needs and both the long-term and short-term goals you have for his or her spiritual growth and development. You will not be turned away. Whether you desire materials to work with your child at home or prefer assistance from our volunteers (in or out of a classroom setting), the first step is to start the dialogue. Contact Mary French, Director of Faith Formation, to begin the intake process by emailing mfrench@saintkilian.org or by calling 724.625.1665 x.2122.
